Abstract

This article explores the transformative role of generative artificial intelligence platforms in language education and their potential to reshape educational and creative practices in the digital age. It examines how these technologies can be harnessed for natural language processing, text analysis, translation, error detection and correction, and the generation of educational content, thereby fostering a shift from traditional, transmission-based approaches to more interactive, personalized, and learner-centered modes of instruction. Particular attention is given to the capacity of generative AI to enhance learners’ linguistic and digital competencies while cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and greater autonomy in the learning process. The article also considers the evolving role of the teacher, who is increasingly positioned as a facilitator, pedagogical guide, and critical evaluator of AI-generated content rather than merely a transmitter of knowledge. In this context, learners are likewise expected to develop the digital and critical literacy required to assess, interpret, and use AI-generated outputs responsibly and effectively. The article ultimately argues that generative artificial intelligence offers considerable potential for enriching language education and revitalizing both pedagogical and creative practices, provided that its integration is guided by sound pedagogical principles and remains firmly grounded in the human, critical, and creative dimensions of education.
